National Employment Report Shows Growth in December
The latest National Employment Report shows that private-sector jobs increased by 238,000 from November to December, on a seasonally adjusted basis. The report is prepared monthly by payroll and benefits provider ADP, which collects the information from the actual payroll data of businesses who use its payroll services.

The latest National Employment Report shows that private-sector jobs increased by 238,000 from November to December, on a seasonally adjusted basis. The report is prepared monthly by payroll and benefits provider ADP, which collects the information from the actual payroll data of businesses who use its payroll services.
According to the report, there was a net gain of 238,000 during the month. The strongest gains were seen in small businesses with under 50 employees, with an increase of 108,000. Businesses with 50-499 employees saw an increase of 59,000 jobs, while large businesses with more than 500 employees saw a gain of 71,000.
“The U.S. private sector added 238,000 jobs in December, surpassing November as the strongest month for job growth in 2013,” said Carlos Rodriquez, president and CEO of ADP. “It’s encouraging news that hopefully bodes well for 2014.”
Service-sector businesses saw a net gain of 170,000, while gains were seen across all general industries. The ADP National Employment Report indicates that professional/ business services contributed the most to growth in service-providing industries, adding 53,000 jobs.
This was the largest gain in the industry in a year. Expansion in trade/transportation/utilities slowed slightly, adding 47,000 jobs in December. Private payrolls increased by nearly 1.9 million jobs in the service-providing industries in 2013. The bulk of this increase was split evenly between transportation/trade/utilities and professional/business services. Finance brought up the rear gaining just 59,000 in the last twelve months.
